Garage Door Systems Explained
There are two different systems that might be part of the functioning and ensure a counterbalance system for your garage door. Through this system, a force offsets the weight of the garage door and allows it to open without brute force.
The most common type of Garage door system is the Torsion Spring system. Here, springs are usually fitted across the opening of the door horizontally. When the door is lowered, cables attached to the corners of the door trigger the springs to wind up which stores energy. As the doors open, the springs unwind providing the energy needed to lift the door. The more this occurs the weaker the mechanism becomes.
Alternatively, some garages use extension spring systems and in this case the springs are attached to cables which are then fitted to the bottom section of the door. With the door closed the spring stretches and when it opens the energy contained lifts the door just like in the previous system.
Some garage doors may also be operated remotely. These doors use an infrared signal to active the motor connected to the garage door. The door then operates with a track and pulley system.
